5D II video compared to HD camcorder
Feb 4, 2009

I've read lots and lots of opinions of 5D II video, but most of them have been from people that have never shot video (the "real" photographers), or that are video professionals. I would like to hear some opinions from people who have experience from consumer camcorders, and whose expectations reflect this hobbyist-oriented view.

Now that hopefully at least some people have had time to use 5D II, and maybe some of you have used a consumed HD camcorder such as Sony SR11/SR12 or Canon HF10, what are your experiences? Basically, is 5D II a viable substitute for these camcorders?

Based on purely specifications, the first thing that comes to mind is that the 5D II's LCD screen is crappy compared to Sony SR11, and shooting video from interesting angles must be more awkward.

Canon in-lens IS is not designed for shooting video, but since fast movement should be avoided anyway, panning with IS shouldn't cause major problems? Manual (aperture) control is missing, but it's missing from these consumer camcorders, too.

Any way to connect an external microphone while still having a flash gun attached?
