50mm f1.8 review but no 5D II

Given this lens has been around pretty much since time began, and is of virtually no practical use to anybody*, it shows very sound commercial sense on the part of this site to review it in priority to the 5D II!

  • for low light - kit lens with IS is better, can probably be handheld in quite a lot less light as IS is more valuable than f1.8. For shallow DOF - poor bokeh means you're better off sticking with the kit lens until you can afford the f1.4 or f1.2. For sharpness - dodgy autofocus means again, the kit lens is probably better in real life. For "back to basics simplicity" or "learning real photography" - get a Pentax K1000 or pretty much any manual SLR for no money off ebay instead.
