I know what your saying as far as DOF goes between the camera.
This is more important if controlled DOF is a concern. There are time
when DOF is not so important. Such as shooting an air show were you
are sometimes shooting a aircraft with the sun coming off the wing
one moment and a cloud covers the sun the next pass or the next plane
in the pattern is black and 90 degrees to the sun. I have my speed
locked in at 800 my ISO set at 100. My range of exposure is less with
a 50D than I would have on the 5D. The 5D still has more useable
range of setting giving you more choices.

You keep on coming up with examples where the 50D is clearly the
better choice. For the air show, where you can probably shoot near
the len's optimum aperture, you want the camera that will put the
most pixels over the subject, which is the 50D (it's also a faster
camera, which can be an advantage in that kind of shooting).

Look I get what your saying your just aren't getting what I'm saying
and thats ok. I do use a 50D with a 100-400L for air shows And I know
were the sweet spots are in this setup. And I know the 5D as well I
sold it to my friend after I shot his wedding. I have owned the E-20
and the E-1. All have there pros and cons and I still come back to
the 1.6X crop bodies. And despite what people here think the future
is in smaller sensors.

Looks like we basically agree, then.
