To isolate your subject, which is better for portraits?

Well, which do you think would be more affective for isolating my subjects in portrait setting, a 85/1.8D lense, or a 105/2.8 lense? Remember that I would be closer to my subject with the 85, but without as much magnification.

-- Does anyone know of a chart to help with this? Which lense is more desireable for portait work? I would imagine that the 85 would be used stopped down at least to 2.8 most of the time. It's the focal distance that Im not sure about its effect.

--Thanks,

Nikon D50, 16-85vr, 70-300G, 50/1.8Eseries, and a Sigma 500mm/7.2
