leica digilux3 good price USD1000

I currently own a Canon 40D and have been offered a leica digilux3 for a good price. What is the essence of a Leica which makes it a Leica? I have never used or held one. The person selling it to me will be arriving next week and knows that I am a photographer and offered me the Leica with the kit lens and a 180 f2.8 manual focus lens. Cost for everything USD1000 is that a good price for this. Am I getting a bargain or not?
