I have the HP Photosmart C7280 "All in One" - granted, this is not a
high-quality photo printer but with its 4x6 photo paper tray, card
readers, PictBridge capability and LCD preview screen it IS at least
intended for snapshot printing.

With this printer, the printing panes in SOME MacOS applications
(like Preview) have a Color Matching tab that allows me to pick from
the .icc profiles stored in the usual places. However, I haven't
been able to DISABLE the profiles built into the HP driver (ie.,
Grayscale, Adobe RGB and "Colorsmart/sRGB") that are shown in the
Paper Type/Quality tab, which seem to override the selected Color
Matchine profile.

If anyone knows how to disable the built-in HP profiles...

If your printer driver doesn't have a tab that says something like 'Application Managed Colour', then you are probably jiggered. You might need to step up to a different model to be able to print with other profiles.
