Seculine Twin R4N Remote Release

Has anyone in the US tried the Seculine Twin R4N remote release for the D300? It seems less cumbersome than most setups for the D300. The problem is that it only seems to be available in the UK, and the stores don't seem willing to sell it outside the UK.
Not that it matters, but does anyone know why Nikon deleted the IR sensor from it's upper line bodies?
