SD880 - why does this image look like this?

I'd like to understand why the red poinsettias in this photo look so fuzzy.

I cropped the original and then re-sized it; no other PP; this is to give you a sense of scale:

What is it about the red poinsettias that makes them so blurry compared to the pink and the white? How could I have adjusted the camera settings to capture a better image?
