MacBook Pro harddisk replacement
Dec 4, 2008

Hello,

I'm about to buy a MBP 15,4 inch. Standard it comes with a 250gb 5400 rpm drive. But I want a Windows partition and a partition for photowork so I want to get the optional bigger drive. In the dutch Apple store upgrading the 250 to a 320gb 7200rpm costs €135,-.

But:

In a PC store I can buy a 2.5 inch Western Digital 320gb 7200 rpm drive for €85,- or a WD 500gb 5400 rpm for €109,-. The drive is easyly changed in the new MBP, and I wil still have the original 250gb drive wich I can put in an external USB-case.

What brand drives does Apple use? What brand is recommended? Or is it still recommended to let Apple swap the 250 for a 320 for €135,-. Will it have consequences on speed, stability and/or batteryuse when I change the drive myself for a WD or Toshiba or anything?

Anyone has any experience with this?

Thanks,

Wilmar
