I have been researching digital cameras for the past couple weeks. I started out wanting to get a cheaper digital camera. I have looked at the reviews and downloaded loads of pictures in full resolution behind my 56K modem. It seems I have a couple of choices. I can go with a lower priced/featured camera and upgrade in a couple of years or I can get a really nice camera now and not worry about upgrading in the near future, giving me better quality/feature shots now. I know digital/computerized devices change all the time, usually for the better. I feel like I want a nice camera that will take excellent photos, though I am not much of a photographer. I feel if I had better tools I would invest more time and energy into photography. I also know the best camera won’t make me the best photographer. It takes work and I am prepared to make the effort. I would like to ask a few questions about the 7I to people that are more knowledgeable about digital cameras than I am. This will be my first digital camera purchase/experience.
Is this a good camera to grow into?
How long is the warranty? (USA)
Do you think the 7I would provide years worth of good service provided that it weren’t abused?
Is the camera sturdy? I have yet to put my hands on one to get a feel of it. I need to go into a bigger city to find one I guess. None of the local stores have one.
Has anyone used Dane Electric 320mb flash cards? Are they fast enough?
What size flash card do you recommend? Manufacturer? Size? I probably won’t be using the maximum file sizes from camera very much, but on occasion. I’ll be able to save to PC at least once a day, probably more.
I know the camera likes to drain batteries fast. Would 4 sets of 1800 or higher batteries last a respectable time if viewer is used sparingly? How many battery sets would it take for a day of normal/slightly higher usage?
I have heard that fast battery chargers can cause the coating on cheaper batteries to mess up? What batteries/charger do you recommend? Fast or slow charge?
Thank you for reading and responding.
