canon a650 is

Hi all - I recently picked up a canon a650 is and I just love it. I had to purchase it used as they are so difficult to find. The camera didn't come with the cd. I was reading in the manual that you can just use the cable to load the photos from the camera to the computer but that there might be some problems. I have Windows XP and was wondering if anyone knew if this would be a problem for me and if I should try and track down the cd.
