40D and-a-half a la 1000D?

I have had 350D for 3 years and am happy with it.
I photograph mainly landscapes and wildlife, (some low-light and astrophotography)
Hope to upgrade eventually to XXD Series, for the following reasons:
Larger brighter viewfinder
Dial instead of buttons for changing settings.
Live View.
I could buy a 40D, but I would really love to the high-resolution screen and micro-focus adjustment, as well as the direct switch-on for live view (print button) of the 50D, all of relevant interest for landscape and astro photography.
But I don't want:
Huge RAW files and a 15 mp sensor that out-resolves my lenses (Sigma EX 10-20, Sigma 17-70 and Canon 70-300 USM IS)
What I would buy in the morning is a 10 MP camera, otherwise like the 50D.
Is there any chance Canon might do in the XXD series, a 40D-and-a-half to match the 400D-and-a half which is the 1000D. They could even call it the 100D and stop us worrying about the 60D, 70D, 80D aand 90D!!!!
