NEF vs. NRW - what's the difference?

What difference does it make if the file extension is .NEF vs. .NRW?

I mean - NEFs from different cameras are different too. I can't open D300 NEFs with Nikon Capture 4, I have to use NX to open them. So not all NEFs are the same format.

I might be missing something here of course. If so, please tell me!

I'm curious to see how many of you will be, or will not be, buying
the P6000, due to NRW farce. And how many would buy the camera if it
shot 'standard NEF files' ?

Why not "copy and paste" the following text and perhaps if the list
gets long enough Nikon might take notice.... I'll start....

Prior to the official announcement, were you interested in buying a
Nikon P6000 ?

.YES.

Would you happily buy the Nikon P6000 camera knowing that it shoots
NRW raw files, instead of NEF raw files ?

.NO.

If Nikon withdrew the NRW file option and replaced a NEF file option,
or simply added a NEF file option ( that allowed the user to open
files on either platform, in ViewNX / CaptureNX / CaptureNX2 /
Lightroom / Photoshop ), would you buy a Nikon P6000 ?

.YES.
