Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 HSM Macro vs. Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 with built in AF
Oct 24, 2008

I know there has been a lot of discussion of these two lenses over the last couple of years, but each has come out with new iterations (new Tamron with the built in AF in Spring 2008, and I think the HSM update to the Sigma was sometime in 2007).

My question is, is there an unbiased comparison of the performance of these two lenses available somewhere (in this forum or elsewhere) that I can take a look at, as I would like to pull the trigger on my purchase sometime this week. Unfortunately I can't compare them side by side myself as I don't have a local Sigma dealer.

I tried looking on the regular review sites I frequent like Photozone, but they have reviews for older versions of the lenses.

Thanks in advance.

D300 and D70 (will likely replace the D70 with a compact offering like the D60 or equiv in the next year, so I don't want to pick up the older screw AF version of the Tamron).
