I am quite surprised to learn that there is "high speed sync
mode" in 30D. Actually I do not have 30D - I have 40D Is that
something so useful but Canon designers removed when producing the
next model ?
Practically it is impossible and if 30D had it I will trade my 40D
for it !

This is a flash, not camera feature. If your camera talks ETTL, it should work with any flash so equipped that has the HS sync feature. My 20D has no problem syncing HS with my Sigma DG500 flash. I'll bet your 40D does it too.
