6, 10 or 15mp, does it really matter?

I have the 40D and I probably can't resist the temptation to get the 50D for much longer, but does this increase in MP's really matter, even if you print big? More MP's gives us more details, but so what? Since when has it been the amount of details (or noise..) that makes a great picture?

Can't we always tell from a 400x600 (0,24mp) version on the screen, whether a picture is good or not? And still I'll probably get the 50D, and the 60D when it arrives! It's a strange world, with strange people living in it
