VGA vs DVI

i have an 27inch lcd monitor with both vga and dvi inputs. the video card on my pc has only vga. i am thinking of getting a new video card with DVI. do you think there will be a difference. is the DVI connection better than VGA in terms of the quality of colors on the lcd monitor?
