18-55IS or Tamron 17-50 2.8 lens?

Which would you recommend? I'm looking for a reasonably priced (below $350)W/A-Normal zoom lens. Both seem to get high marks on paper, at least. The Tamron is obviously the faster lens, yet I do have a 50/1.8 for low light right now. I'd like to hear from actual users rather than starring at lens stats. I shoot with an XT.
