Canon 10-22: Is This Normal??
Oct 11, 2008

I may or may not be having a problem with my relatively new Canon 10-22 lens. I'm obviously still learning, but it seems that the depth of field isn't what I expect it should be given the settings I am using. I've attached a sample photo below and two crops to show what concerns me.

If any of you could look at the photo from simply a technical aspect to see if it looks normal, I'd really appreciate it. Try to ignore the subject framing and everything. The focus is what I'm attempting to illustrate in the sample.

The photo was taken at 10mm, ISO 100, F9 with a shutter speed of 1/100. The main focal point was the door opening in the foreground. I just can't believe how soft the background looks. The photo was shot in RAW and then processed in DPP with minimal modifications. No noise reduction.

Thanks!
