Macro with 580EX vs MT24
Oct 4, 2008

I have the Canon 180mm macro which I currently use with a 220EX flash on a home made bracket and off-camera cord. Works fine, however sometimes I need more light. I'll probably buy the MP-E 60mm 1-5x too in the near future.

I know that the MT-24 flash is fantastic, but it is also very expensive, and the guide number not much better than what I already have. So I'm tempted to buy the 580EXII and use it on my bracket, and it will also double as a normal flashgun for general use which the MT24 cannot.

Does someone here use a similar setup for nature macro work? Any thoughts, tips advantages or disadvantages that I'm not seeing. I know it is considerably heavier than my 220EX, but I think I can manage that.

Thanks in advance.
