Canon sees black

An new article in the Financial Times Germany: Canon in crisis. Loses shares in the highly profitable Professional market (more than 2 billion € per year in Germany alone), where whole agencies have changed to Nikon. Stockes are down 38 % since may 2007. The origin of the crisis is the desaster with the autofocus of the 1D Mk 3 and Canon's refusal to accept responsibility, the article says. In the middle of this mess Nikon came out with the D 3, a camera that delivered. "The change is indeed dramatic", an initiate says.

What's worse: the problems will trickle down to the amateur market as amateurs tend to follow the professionals.
