but there is no magic button, totally impossible since the lens puts
out a round image and the sensor is the thing that has different
lengths in each direction and nothingin the lens can make the sensor

The original, non-IS, version has detents on its mounting collar at 90deg intervals, and aligned, normally, with the normal vertical and horizontal positions. After one repair the lens was returned to me with the detents way off the aforementioned positions. Strange...
