noise glorious noise

yup, i can see the smudging on the iso80 g10 samples already. not much i'll admit, but it's there, especially in the portraits.

why. why. why. do the big names just want to still take part in the gigapixel (matter of time) race?

rants aside, why can't they make a low noise option using CCDs? If noise is created by interference between neighbouring sensors, why not cut out the middle man so to speak, and only turn on half the number of sensors. I would be perfectly happy with a 7mp picture from a g series with much less noise in it. Maybe i'm just being incredibly naive? or wishful? iso800? low noise? ethankyou...

For a lot of pictures, if i'm going on holiday etc., then hey, even 4mp would suffice. good enough to print out some 6x4s. If they could offer this, with a low noise option, everyone would use it. guaranteed.
