I agree laguire, not dumping on you Steve, just saying that there are more than 2 FF lenses, and even more than 2 pro lenses. Competition is good!

What makes a pro lens? when you say 2 pro lenses are you just
referring to the 2 white lenses? Or are you referring to resolving a
24mp fullframe which has less pixel density than the higher end crop
cams?

Going by your latest statement - lenses with good resolving power
include: zeiss 24-70, 135, 85, the 70-200/2.8, 300/2.8, 70/300G (not
the 75-300 cheapo), 135 stf, the macro's. Would suspect the two
announced lenses will fair just as well. Many of these have been
reviewed by photozone if you would like to verify, notice their high
mtf scores often appearing to outresolve the 12mp crop sensor which
has more density than the 24mp ff. Sure they may not all outresolve
the sensor in the corners, but that is true of all branded cameras
even on their crop mounts given the megapixel race on crop cameras as
well (canon 50D, Nikon D300, Pentax 20D, etc) -- do you think even
all their pro lenses are outresolving theses sensors in the corners??

Not saying the sony lineup is anywhere as broad as nikon or canon's,
but saying there are only 2 lenses usable on the A900 seems to be a
stretch.

Steve,

Sony offers a much wider range of FF lenses than these two:

Pretty sure these are all FF

SAL-70300G 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom
SAL-70200G - 70-200mm f/2.8 G-Series Telephoto Zoom Lens
SAL-75300 - f/4.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens
SAL-2470Z 24-70mm f2.8 Zoom Lens
SAL-35F14G - 35mm f/1.4 G-Series Wide-Angle
SAL-500F80 - 500mm f/8 Reflex Super Telephoto Lens
SAL-135F18Z - Carl Zeiss® Sonnar® T* 135mm f/1.8 Telephoto Lens
SAL-85F14Z - Carl Zeiss® Planar® T* 85mm f/1.4 Telephoto Lens
SAL-135F28 - 135mm f/2.8-4.5 Telephoto Lens
SAL-300F28G - 300mm f/2.8 G-Series Super Telephoto Lens
SAL-50F14 - 50mm f/1.4 Lens
SAL-100M28 - 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens
SAL-50M28 - 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens

I said PRO lenses. Most of these won't even come CLOSE to resolving
the full 24 mp. You need the PRO glass to go with the pro mp of 24.
That was my point.

These may be, unclear

SAL-28F28 - 28mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens
SAL-20F28 - 20mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens
SAL-16F28 - 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens

And a slew of older minolta lenses.

Many of these designs from the Minolta lineage and do not offer SSM
focusing. Yes, the lineup is not as extensive or full-featured as N
or C, but it is starting to get interesting. I switched to Nikon from
KM just over a year ago, don't regret it, but it's good for all to
have the competition!

They are going to need a lot more than a 24 mp camera! Canon (and
Nikon) is a camera system, complete with a FULL line of pro lenses
and accessories. I see TWO Sony lenses that will work on their new
camera. In this economic climate I simply don't see this happening
for many, many years.

Having fun with photos.
A little searching can go a long way (if the search is up!).
