Canon 24-70L F2.8 at 70mm

Hello, everyone.

I was recently at B&H and I was looking through the finder of a Canon 5D with a 24-70 lens. I was surprised that when I extended the lens to 70mm, it was exactly what I saw out of my other eye- in other words "normal" or what I thought would be 50mm. Is this a defect in the lens? I was expecting to see a tighter crop in the finder.

I apologize if this has been brought up before- I did a search on this topic and I did not find this issue brought up.

Thanks. Pierre
