Disappointed with Canon G9

I just came back from a trip. I took my G9 to shoot landscapes mainly. All pictures were taken at ISO80 at full resolution with full sunshine and beautiful blue sky. The detail level for far away objects (mountains in the horizon, etc) is very poor, with even visible noise in the sky and distant objects. Not that I was expecting DSLR performance, but at least better than regular P&S cameras. But I guess that physics rules and the G9 performs like a cheap P&S sensorwise. Ebay, here I come.
