The 18-200 vs the new 18-105

I had ordered a body only with an 18-200. Since the body was delayed I bought the kit and my co-worker offered to by the kit lense from me for his D40x. Now my wife asks me if I really want to do that. Maybe the 18-105 is better then the 18-200 for its range. I'm expecting it to be about the same. When I did very few test shots I did not notice much of a difference but I only did 4 photos so not much of a test. How should these two lenses compare?

I did notice that at 70 (dialed on the lense) the 18-105 seemed to be slightly more zoomed in then the 18-200. Is that expected?

Also I've ready here that the 18-200 is VRII. I don't see that on the lense that still only says VR. Is VRII usually labeled? Are all releases of the 18-200 VRII? This one is made in Thailand.

I still think I prefer the convenience of the 18-200 as long as the image quality is similar.
