Given the LX-3 using a smaller sensor, you do have more DOF on the
LX-3 which means you can afford to open wider for achieving the same
DOF effect of the F4.0. I don't know if this equivalence is 1 stop
or 2 stops, but it should be considered, because then you can take
shots with a bit less noise on the LX-3, so that makes up for some of
the difference tool.

All true of course, and on reflection I do wish we'd done a shot at F2.0 with the LX3. However, this was an ad-hoc test done on a purely coincidental discovery that both cameras were in the same room at the same time. Time was against us in a business (non-photography) environment, and so this was very much a rough and ready test, as stated in the OP. Sorry for the flaw(s) ...
