D700 Exposure Problems

Camera set to 3d matrix metering and shooting raw images in aperture priority. Finding I have to back off the exposure in lightroom usually by between 0.75 and 1.5 stops. Anyone experiencing similar problems? Is there a remedy other than checking histogram and adjusting using exposure compensation button?
