D700 front dial?

Mine's a bit more recessed than it was on the D200, and seems slightly uneven if you look at the hole that's been made for it on the rubber grip.

Is that normal or I got a manufacturing defect? Doesn't really affect it except when I want to change aperture, etc, I lose some slight feel to that dial compared to my D200
