Canon 400mm 5.6L: Tripod or monopod??
Aug 8, 2008

Hi everybody, I'm planning to buy a 400mm 5.6L and need something to 'stabilize' it. The main use is going to be wildlife and hiking (usually about 16 miles/25 km) with a 30D.

I've a cheap Sunpak 3300 6-year-old tripod, so the options I'm considering are:

1. Add a monopod for the 400mm, and keep the tripod.

2. Change the tripod for something better (Carbon fiber Gitzo or Bogen) and a Wimberley Sidekick. Much more expensive, and maybe overkill ...

Please, 400mm 5.6L owners: Do you prefer tripod or monopod? Any other sugestion?
