D3 shoots the Moon - C&C welcome

I shot the Moon at this phase in the past with D2X, I just wonder how the D3 compares to its predecessor. Result; D3 has better DR (of course), only that 1,600mm focal length is not long enough to fill its 12MP FX sensor. This focal length fits nicely in DX format - I think around 2,000mm will be optimum for D3.
Sharpness wise, I find the D3 comparable to D2X. So I'm sure with longer focal length it will beat the D2X.
Shooting data:
Camera: D3
Lens/telescope: Vixen NA140SSf, Kenko 2x TC
Focal length: 1,600mm f/11 (After 2x TC)
ISO 320, 1/80 sec
Thanks for looking,
Winston
