Re: Final Update (not really)

First, re your comment about flash. I've never used flash for nature macro shots. Tripods, cable releases, mirror lockup (if my camera had it), etc. were what I utilized. I remember 1/15 or 1/8 being a common shutter speed using Velvia.

Your other comments made a lot of sense and I've put off getting a macro lens. I, instead, got the 28-90 and 75-300 canon USM zooms. Adorama had refurbished lenses and I paid less than $250 for the two of them.

I will spend some time with the camera and these lenses before I decide what fixed focal length lenses I need. The tilt/shift lenses are also a great way to do macro.

I'm also looking a couple of years in the future and see full frame sensors as the way to go, with my 30D as a backup, and long focal length, body.

Thanks for the input.

My first lens will be the EFS 60mm macro. But I've got to do some
shopping around for that.

60mm EFS $400

60mm is a little short on working distance. For just a couple $ more
or even the same price, the best rated are:

Sigma 105mm $395

Canon 100mm $490
