Innovative use of a monopod as tripod?
Jul 28, 2008

I am really looking a very light weight "tripod solution". I use an old Gitzo 1028G (770g), plus a Markin Q3 (380g), total about 1.15g, for travel. I am looking for a "tripod solution" of about 750g.
I have looked over B&H. The table top/mini are too short, 25". There are some compacts, e.g. Velbon Ultra LUXiSF, which is already 950g, and I found the leg twist is hard to manipulate, and the ballhead is limited.
I looked at the monopod "Gitzo GM2561T Traveler 6x Carbon Fiber Monopod", weighs only 330g, max height 56". That would be great combination with my Markin Q3, 380g. But ...
I am planning an extended hiking at
4500m for a few months. Now for 5% of the time, I will take some sunrise and sunset photoes, with exposures say up to 5 seconds. Has anyone tried to use a monopod creatively as a tripod, assuming it is a soil-pebble land?
Any innovative ideas would be much appreciated.
Steven
