nikon 300mm f2.8

I have the opportunity to purchase a used nikon 300mm ED IF AF version which is a screw driven AF lens. From what little there is on the internet about this lens I have found out that this is a slow focusing lens. I have an 80-200mm f2.8 AF-D lens and would this lens be any slower at focusing than my zoom?

But other than focusing I hear that the 300mm f2.8 produces some of the best quality images out there.

So my question is with all that considered is $1350 a good price for a almost mint lens with everything (hard case, hood, covers) or should I put in the extra money and buy a used AF-S version?

Thank you
Andrew
