Re: what about other options?
In reply to Daniella, Jun 13, 2008

I have both the 300 f4 IS and the 400 f5.6. They seem to be equally sharp wide open. With the 300 f4 and 1.4 canon tele tracking is bad. The 400 tracks bird in flight very well. I recently started to use the 1.4 canon tele on the 400 by taping the pins. It works very well but I am too shaking for birds in flight with the combo. I have the cheap Tamron 1.4 but found it less sharp. My 300 f4 has always seemed very sharp wide open.. I use the 300 a lot but for birding the 400 f5.6 is more practical so I keep both of them.-
