Honestly, anything looks interesting when blown up to 1:1. The issue is that some of it gets abstract and some people don't like that style. Take a look at many different types of materials that have interesting patterns or textures. Some of these can be great magnified.

As you mentioned, flowers can be infinitely fascinating. I have a small collection of recent work here: for example.

Anything that's mechanical can render some great shots - like old watches or clocks. The gearing is awesome to look at blown up!

Macro, like any other aspect of photography, is a great way to exercise your imagination. Go ahead and shoot what you see. Sometimes the ideas don't work out, sometimes they do - that's 1/2 the fun!
