24-70mm f/2.8 on D3 Questions

As I patiently wait for the lens, I've got a couple of questions ...

1) Anyone have some successful usage for up close macro type work ? With the minimum focus distance quite close, I would think this lens might allow some decent potential.

2) Filters. Does it require the slim version ? Or will the standard profile, threaded versions work without vignetting ?

3) I find the 14-24mm f/2.8 & D3 quite a heavy combo to work with, do you find the 24-70mm f/2.8 in the same boat ?

4) Are you happy with the price/performance ?

5) and Lastly, what don't you like about this combo ?
