1080p LCD TV for photo editing?

How would some of those 1920x1080 LCD TV's (for example a Toshiba 42" Regza which advertises as an 8bit panel) work for photo editing?
I need a halfway decent editing monitor and I need a TV but I can't afford both.
DVI-> HDMI converters are cheap enough...
