40D vs 450D resolution.
May 28, 2008

40D --- 3888 x 2592 pixels = 10,08 MP
450D - 4272 x 2848 pixels = 12,16 MP

That's a 20,6% increase in MP's but only a 9,87% increase in horizontal and vertical pixel count. Many people argues that that's trivial and barely visible, but that's not the whole story. The 450D also have a weaker AA-filter, and that shows in the resolution figures.

Resolution - horizontal/vertical/extinsion

40D --- 2100/1800/2300
450D - 2300/2200/2500

The figures shows a 9,5% increase in horizontal resolution and a 22,2% increase in vertical resolution, giving an average of 15,87%. So, one could argue that the 450D sensor (with its weaker AA-filter) actually gives you the same resolution as a 40D sensor (with its stronger AA-filter) with 13,5 MP would have done. (4505 x 3003 = 13,53 MP = 15,87% increase in horizontal and vertical pixel count)

I love my 40D and I don't really 'need' the extra resolution, but I sure wouldn't mind having it, and I don't like it much if this all means that a 50D will be introduced already this fall.
