24-70mm 2.8 on a D80?
May 28, 2008

So does the 24-70mm 2.8G make sense on a D80 dSLR or is it a waste of money? Has anyone used this lens specifically on a D80?

I intend to get by my first dSLR in the next two weeks (as a lot of you know!) and am still trying to figure out the best lens. I was thinking about the 17-55mm 2.8G but have since decided I need more range on the telephoto end.

I will be traveling to Europe in just under a month and need to make a decision on the lens, order the camera and lens and learn how to use them. I would like to only take one lens, if possible.

The 18-200 doesn't seem to be the right lens for me as I prefer taking portraits and low light photos and some architecture. I am not into landscapes too often (once in a while) or wildlife.

I have spent a couple of years learning the basics with an old film SLR, all manual except for aperture priority, and lots of years on digital P&S and film P&S.

Thanks in advance, for your thoughts.
