€1800 for 70 - 200 in Schiphol

Hi
Just got back from a tip to Europe from UK.
At Schiphol airport they had a 70 to 200mm f2.8. Tried it on my D70. It was so fast and had no problems focusing compared to my 18 to70 lens.
Anyway what I am getting to is the high prices of camera equipment in Europe compared to UK even taking into account the poor rate at present.
The lens was €1800,
which works out to be £1428 (at 1.26 euros even at 1.45 is £1241).
This is more than Warehouse express at £1149.
The Europeans must have more money than sense is all I can say. I certainly will not be buying anything there soon.
