D3 and Macro work?
May 21, 2008

I'm relatively new to the D3 and Nikon. I've read Thom's recent article and see what he recommends. I don't really want to buy glass designed in the last century, as surely Nikon will release updates soon, right? So, the 200mm micro and even the 85mm PC micro are out. (I have seen their stellar reviews.)

I have the 105mm VR micro and like it allot, but as Thom points out, it suffers a reach problem. I also have the 70-200mm VR f2.8, and noted Thom's suggestion about using extension tubes, which intrigues me. So, do any of you knowledgeable folks have experience with and suggestions about the following for nature macro work with more reach:

1- The 70-200 VR with extension tubes
2- The 105mm VR micro with a TC-17E II
3- The latter with the D300 (I do have one)

Love to get your thoughts...
