Shutter Failure?

Just what does a camera act like when the shutter fails? Last night, my I fired of a shot with my 5D, the shutter hung up for a long time before it closed. Then the LCD showed "busy" until I removed the batteries. I shot again, the shutter clicked, but no image, and the LCD again showed "busy" until I removed the batteries. What's up? Camera is still DOA this morning, I'm just wondering what I'm facing in getting the camera repaired. I can't get it to Canon until the end of the week...
