Processing RAW is frustrating
May 3, 2008

I'm finding RAW files a bit frustrating to work with. First of all, there seems to be four Canon programs/utilities involved in the process, which is long and tedious compared to processing JPEGS:

Digital Photo Pro
EOS Utility
Picture Style Editor
ZoomBrowser

Then I still must open images in CS3 to do final editing and convert an image to 8 bit to Save AS ad JPEG and to maintain Exif data.

I think the quality of XSi JPEG Fine is outstanding, so why fuss with RAW. JPEG files are quicker to open, preview and edit without jumping to this and that software. Simply open a JPEG in a program such as Photoshop, tweak and Save As. That's it.

Other than special occasions or in difficult lighting situations, I personally have not found a reason that shooting RAW is a distinct advantage over JPEG fine. Processing is just so slow.

Has anyone else come to this conclusion?
