You ought to be able to do something by shooting through a transparent plate, though.

Something like this:

============= - Charged glass plate, covered in some transparent conductor
object here/
============= - Grounded metal plate

Set up something like this, and hang your camera from a copy stand above. I suppose if you wanted to do shots of live subjects, you'd want to set it up the other way around, so they could rest on the charged plate, and you'd shoot from the bottom.

As for how to get the glass to be conductive, a thin coating of metal (partial mirroring) would work, or you could coat it with gelatin, which would be relatively similar to the photographic plates used in traditional Kirlian photography.

Come to think of it, I have all this stuff lying around. Maybe I'll give it a shot.
