shooting the moon
Apr 17, 2008

I'm really new to the DSLR world. I've had my D50 for a couple of months and really wish my new job gave me more time to work with it and get down the fundamentals of understanding exposure and using the different manual modes of the camera.

Anyway I tried taking some shots of the moon last night. I'm finding it a decent exercise but I've become a bit frustrated. I feel as if i've gone up and down the dial trying different shutter speeds and aperture settings to get a decent shot. I either end up with a white blob or a shot that shows some detail but it's too blurry.

I feel as if I can't rely on the exposure display in the viewfinder for this.

A lot of you are terrific photographers and was hoping to get a few pointers, or at least a good starting point to work from settings wise.

I have a tripod, not great but it does work. The lens I'm using is a 70-300mm VR and the wireless remote to cut down on camera shake.

Any help would be appreciated.
