This rather peculiar state of affairs does make us question just how standardized the 'Four Thirds Standard,' actually is, if you need access to another manufacturer's cameras to get the most out their lenses on your chosen camera.

4/3 Standard does not cover a firmware update process. It's up to a camera maker how to provide such capability to an end user. Olympus cameras use online connection through Olympus Master software whereas Panasonic ones automatically check for updates in the root of the inserted flash card. They may decide to unify the update installation, but it will take time (much time!) to be released. Should we wait or take a trip to a service and enjoy with new features right now? You may have a friend nearby who has a camera which can be used to update your lens. Why not go meeting him or her?

Kudos Olympus and Panasonic. They really work together to make their users happier.

Finally, could you name any other manufacturer on this market who provides end users such an option - to update an other maker's lens by yourself?
