First purchases for the 400d

Well I broke the bank today and ordered 2 components. What do you think?
Canon Speedlite 430EX
Tamron 18-250
I am just a novice with DSLR and hope to grow with these 2 pieces. I figure I will not use the Kit Lens much, given the tamrons range, but who knows. Nothing against the Kit Lens just want something more versatile.
Let me know what you think.
