H9 Remote control bird photography

I have found a novel use for the IR remote control of the H9.
I saw these little birds feasting in a fig tree in the back yard at my folks place this past weekend.
At first I took a few photos at full telephoto and they were OK, but these birds were really small, and I wanted to get in "closer" for a better shot.
As soon as I tried to move in closer, they would fly away.
So I had this idea to setup the camera on the tripod, pre-focussed on one of the half-eaten figs they were enjoying and wait for them to return.
It was only a few minutes and they returned, completely un-fussed by the camera which was setup about 2 metres away.
